Binoculars (almost) always come equipped with a set of lens caps. Lens caps should be used at all times to protect the expensive front lenses with their special coating from scratches and other types of damage. Lens caps also protect the binoculars from sand, dust and other materials that could have an adverse effect on the optics. For instance, when cleaning the binoculars, a grain of sand could easily damage the lenses.
